Rookie TreVeyon Henderson shone brightly with three TDs as the New England squad notched an eighth consecutive victory for the initial occasion since legendary quarterback Tom Brady's closing campaign with the team in 2019
QB Maye passed for 281 passing yards and a score, connecting on 25 out of 34 attempts
The triumph extends the Patriots lead at the top of the AFC East as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the New York at the foot after dropping to two wins and eight losses
The Jets had gone in front at Foxborough with QB Justin Fields rushing for a short rushing score to finish the New York's opening drive
But the New England answered in the second quarter as Henderson ran in two short rushing scores before the ball carrier grabbed a reception from Drake Maye at the rear of the endzone in the middle of the third period to make it 21 to 7
"That was a big time for him stepping up, and it's been great for him to keep gaining experience," the quarterback said of Henderson. "He desires to be great."
Justin Fields found Metchie in the latter part of the third quarter to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Andy Borregales converted a pair of field goals in the final period as the home side closed out the win
