Diving into an Unique Steam Demo: Controlling a Poop in a Mission to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have discovered numerous interesting independent titles. But, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game lets you play a hero that is literally a turd trying to travel to a restroom. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

How you interact is simple: you only need a jump control. Across numerous challenges, battle tough enemies and unlock a shop to purchase outfits for your fecal avatar.

Time your movements precisely, as a mistake forces beginning again. Leap using air pockets to hurl your character to new heights, traverse fragile ledges, and activate buttons to open secret routes. Earn coins and use them on more difficult game content as the action ramps up.

In terms of design, the demo shows off eye-catching stages and catchy music score. Its minimalist visual style with morphing basic polygons evokes memories of fans of old favorites like Earthbound.

Although difficult to think of similar titles where you play as a coiled turd, interactive entertainment have long incorporated fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, players create explosives from protagonist waste. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, fecal references shows up extensively in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive accolades, such as taking top honors at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is accessible currently on Steam, with the full game planned to arrive on Steam in the fall.
