The Two Sergeants Instants Before the Attacker Got Stunned

One ranking policeman who jumped to the assistance of a fellow officer that got attacked by a knife attacker has been awarded the Royal Recognition for Bravery.

Sergeant Tim Ansell fought with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown following he pressed a blade to the throat of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the officers and their partner, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist following a road collision in Whalley Range in mid-2023.

Brown attacked with blade both Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster before PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a stun gun.

"Officer stabbed," PC Wolstencroft was heard to say over his communication device.

Bodyworn and dashcam recording made public by the force revealed Brown, that was clothed in black with a head covered, rush to Sgt Foster from behind with a weapon outstretched.

He collided with the officer who stumbled and fell to the pavement, after which Sergeant Ansell jumped in and attempted to subdue him to the ground even though being repeatedly struck with the blade.

Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and sought a safe opportunity, bringing the struggle to an conclusion.

Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "Can I get help on my throat here, I've been stabbed in the throat."

Sgt Ansell sustained multiple deep cuts to his throat and further wounds to his arms and torso, while Sergeant Foster experienced cut injuries.

The department stated Sgt Foster utilized his palms to stem his colleague's bleeding before medical personnel arrived.

The latest recognition follows after the law enforcement team received organizational Bravery Awards in fall 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the regional union branch in early 2024.

They were also awarded a Area Valor Recognition in mid-2024.

"The actions of each policeman ultimately saved themselves and resulted in no members of the public endured any injuries."

Brown was sentenced to an secure medical confinement in April 2024, as stated by officials.
